Bunk Beds & Loft Beds for Kids
Bunk beds have come a long way from the simple ladder-and-frame designs of a decade ago. With more Australian families living in apartments and townhouses, especially across Sydney, today’s bunk and loft beds are designed to do more with less space — while keeping safety front and centre.
At Kids Furniture FDO, our current range reflects what Australian parents are actually asking for in 2026: staircase access instead of ladders for easier climbing, low-line designs that feel less towering in smaller rooms, and beds that can split into two singles as your kids grow or move into their own rooms.

What’s Changed in Bunk Bed Design
Ladders used to be the default, but staircases are becoming a popular choice for families looking for easier access — and designs with built-in storage drawers can make the bedroom more functional. We’ve also noticed more interest in low to mid-height bunks, which can work particularly well in smaller bedrooms.
Loft beds remain popular for older kids and tweens who need a desk or study space underneath rather than a second sleeping spot — a practical option in homes where a separate study nook simply isn’t available.
Bunk Bed Safety Comes First
Safety is one of the most important considerations when choosing bunk beds for kids. Our bunk beds are selected with Australian safety requirements in mind, including appropriate guardrails, safe openings and sturdy construction. Always follow the assembly instructions and the maximum mattress height marked on the bed.
ACCC Product Safety advises that the top bunk or a raised bed is not recommended for children under 9 years old, although a child’s maturity and development should also be considered. Regularly check connections and fasteners, keep bunk beds away from ceiling fans, lights and blind or curtain cords, and don’t allow children to jump or play on the bunk bed.
Finding the Right Bunk Bed for Your Home
With options ranging from compact single bunks to king single sizes with optional trundles, our range is built around what actually works in Australian homes — smaller floorplans, shared bedrooms and the need to make better use of available space.
If you’re after extra sleeping space for sleepovers, a trundle bed tucks away underneath and rolls out when needed. If your kids are likely to want separate rooms in a few years, look for convertible designs that can split into two standalone beds.
